An ancient technique within a contemporary context
In the late nineties I created a lot of mosaics. They were all the rage at the time. Durable, affordable, accessible. They were a great vehicle for engaging local communities in re-designing their public spaces.
I was commissioned through WA’s percent for Art scheme to create mosaics for Boddington’s new District High school in 1999. My partner (Peter Hill) and I worked with hundreds of children at the school to create their own mosaic elements for incorporation into a long frieze. I also created some larger pieces based on children’s designs that were embedded in courtyard paving.
